There is now a proper website for 8-FX where you can listen to and download 8-FX mixes. Available already are Control Unit mixes 1 – 5 which were recorded in 2009. The aim for 2010 is to post a mix at least every month. Control Unit 006 is on it’s way and will be available very soon.
Head over to the 8-FX website to check out the mixes…
Yes back for 2010. After ducking out of the usual Christmas and New Year routine and heading off to India for three weeks of travelling, curry and chilling on the beach we are back. Some nice holiday snaps over at the Flickr page.
So 2010 already one month into it, loads of stuff going on, busy busy. Managed to catch some good films, to note: ‘The Road’ a very bleak tale of a journey of a man and his son across a post-apocalyptic America. ‘Sex, drugs and rock and roll’ the story of Ian Dury, a good one for fans and non fans alike, with some beautiful title and animation sequences designed by Peter Blake. Also been stuck into ‘The Wire’ boxset which I somehow missed the first time round – addicted.
Music wise the Radio Relay guys have been off to a top quality start to the year. An absolutely slamming mix from Mezerik a few weeks ago (Radio Relay 14) check it out for a top mix of quality detroit techno. And I have to catch up with the mix from Sam Elektrosouls that aired this week – looking forward to listening to this one. I’m sure James has some great shows lined up for us this year!
First of the new year will be on it’s way shortly so keep yer ears open! For now as the title of the post says LFO with We Are Back….classic
While we are on the subject of Mezerik please check out the Mezcast Transmission 10.
For those not familiar with the mezcast transmissions
Mezcast is a monthly podcast of all genres of electronic music with no talking and no bullshit. Just a selection of fine quality electronic music. Over the years that I’ve been collecting vinyl I’ve built up a collection of many types of electronic music which I want to share with like minded people with a love for electronic music.
Mezcast Transmission 10 is mixed by Mezerik with all tracks produced by Carl Taylor – Warehouse-Trax. This is well worth a listen and has been playing on my ipod all this week.
Head over to Mezerik to get your hands on his latest E.P. MZ 004- Deeper. Three tracks of beautifully crafted techno. Top stuff from Mezerik, plus it’s yours in aiff or mp3 (320kbps) for no cost at all – yes completely free – thanks Mezerik. You will also find Mezerik’s other releases available for download. Make sure you keep an ear out for the remix E.P. MZ 005 coming soon.
I recently bought a new camera a Canon IXUS 100 IS to take photos as I am going on a little trip at the end of next week. I wanted a small camera to fit in my pocket that would take great photos.
After being sucked in by some slick advertising and a recommendation from the shop I purchased a Nikon coolpix 230 – what a disappointment that was. I was expecting it to take nice good quality images and I wouldn’t even to really have to play around too much with the settings.
No, absolute rubbish, the images are so, so, poor, very soft and even breaking up in places. You could probably take better photos on a mobile phone! Please do not purchase a Nikon coolpix 230 camera if you are wanting to take decent resolution photos.
I took the Nikon back the next day and exchanged it. I paid a little bit extra and purchased a Canon IXUS 100 IS. I am really pleased, for the price it takes great photos. The auto setting is great and it makes it very easy to take a great shot just by pointing and clicking.
I took some test shots of some bits around my house, the X wing pilot that lives on the fridge door (above) being one of them, head over to my Flickr account if you want to see the other test shots.
The camera seems great and I am amazed at the quality when you see the size of it. I should have some good photos of my trip to post up here soon.
Since getting my iphone I have become addicted to the one game I have downloaded – Touch cricket.
Touch Cricket on the iphone
A very simple game of placing both your thumbs on the screen and sliding them to adjust the position of the batsman. I think it’s strange and maybe rather worrying how such a simple game can keep me entertained for so long!
You can play the quick play version where you are set certain challenges such as score a century, bat for a draw, score x amount of runs to win the match. It keeps all your stats for this part of the games including number of centuries and fifties scored as well as average etc.
You can also play complete matches of 50 and 20 over games as well as an ashes match with teams picked from stars of the past such as Geoff Boycott, Ian Botham, Bob Willis.
I guess it’s a shame there is no bowling option but still the batting I find highly addictive, I spend far too much time playing this game when I could be doing something far more constructive!
Check out the Touch Cricket website for more on the game and a link to download for your iphone.
This is an important post for all listeners of the Radio Relay show.
The Radio Relay show has gone from strength to strength this year. Over the past ten shows it has featured some great music and dj sets. Including appearences from Mezerik, 1Dan, Sam from Elektrosouls, Sputnik, Blage Parry as well as a few dj sets from myself, 8FX.
With the continuing success it has now been decided that the show will be moved to the more suitable time of 6 – 8pm. Yes, an extra half an hour of quality electronic music!
A big thank you to James for playing my sets this year it’s been great to hear my mixes on the radio and I’ve enjoyed listening to all the other shows. Also just a quick mention to Mezerik who has done a fantastic job at setting up the Radio Relay website as well as sorting out all the technical stuff with the Radio Relay widget and listen again/podcasts. Nice one fellas!
So don’t forget the new time is now 6pm – 8pm. Standby for a very special show this weekend featuring Sheffieldbleep. This is one you don’t want to miss!
